In recent years Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services has been working with a number of Tasmanian businesses to develop and implement early intervention programmes.
Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services currently delivers these services to a range of small and medium size employers, labour hire agencies as well as larger companies, one of which employs in excess of 500 staff throughout the state.
It is proven that the earlier an injured employee can begin a graduated return to work programme, directly correlates with an increase in the success of positive final return to work outcomes and a reduction in overall claims costs. It also has a very positive effect for the workers, employers and other interested parties.
The companies that utilise our early intervention process have realised either a reduction in their workers compensation insurance premiums or, at minimum, have been able to sustain current levels in spite of increased injury occurrence; this is due to the benefit of decreased overall claim costs.
When an employee suffers or reports a workplace injury, initial first aid / emergency treatment is supplied on-site or arranged by management if required.
Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services is then contacted, supplied with relevant details and requested to begin the early intervention injury management process. A formal referral is also sent through to our offices.
Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services will then set about co-ordinating claim lodgement, medical assessment, ongoing treatment and management, rehabilitation programmes and return to work plans. At all times during the rehabilitation process, regular communication and reporting takes place with all parties involved.

Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to those whom have sustained either a work or non-work related illness or injury.
These services aim to enable an individual to proceed on a rehabilitation pathway in a safe and dignified manner and include medical management, realistic rehabilitation and return to work programmes, integrated referral systems and standardised reporting systems.
In the case of a workplace injury or illness, all of these services are usually initiated and paid for by an employer’s Workers Compensation Insurer. However, you don’t have to wait and allow others to make these decisions for you!
Early return to work is cost effective to employers and employees and psychologically and physically beneficial to injured workers. When a workplace injury or illness occurs, a return-to-work plan must be prepared if a worker is incapacitated for more than 14 days. This plan should be designed in full consultation with the injured worker, the treating medical practitioner, the employer and the rehabilitation provider. It should be realistic and achievable, ensuring that the injured worker returns to the workplace in a safe and timely manner.
Doesn’t it make sense to appoint a rehabilitation provider of your choice, to act on your behalf, to achieve the best outcomes for your business and your employees?
By nominating Tasmanian Occupational Health & Safety Services as your preferred rehabilitation provider to your Insurer, you can receive quality, comprehensive and consistent services that get results, from a company that has taken the time to get to know and understand your needs and requirements, and those of your business and employees!
